Eagle front-slide corner cracks on fifth wheels built before 2021
Owner reportSlides
- Symptoms
- Jayco standard repair procedure 22-043 covers a crack at the front bottom corner of the front slide on Eagle fifth wheels, Eagle HT fifth wheels, North Point, and Pinnacle, before model year 2021. It says Eagle and Eagle HT fifth wheels do not get the extra frame tube or C-channel that an 8-inch I-beam can call for on the other models in that procedure. NHTSA complaint ODI 11388403, on a 2020 Jayco fifth-wheel Eagle, says the driver-side slide cracked, a repair was scheduled, and Jayco was aware of frame reinforcement and sidewall cracking. Complaint ODI 11603054, also on a 2020 Eagle fifth wheel, says fiberglass sides are cracking because welds are cracking, that service advisers told the owner this, and that the owner was told the repair was the owner's to pay. Complaint ODI 11462985, on a 2020 Eagle fifth wheel, says structural frame cracks are causing weakness over the hitch. That complaint does not say the crack is at the slide corner. North Point owners, on the Jayco Owners Forum and on 5th Wheel Forums, describe the bedroom-slide corner crack the procedure names, on 2018 and 2020 coaches.
- Likely causes
- Procedure 22-043 is Jayco's repair for that slide-corner crack. It says to call Jayco if upper-deck flex measures more than 1/4 inch. Complaint ODI 11603054 says the cracking follows cracked welds. That is the complainant's account of what service advisers said. The complaints do not include a measurement.
- Common fixes
- Procedure 22-043 tells a technician to remove the bedroom slide, open the sidewall skin, weld aluminum gussets, and install longer screws in the gooseneck angle. It says not to add the tube or C-channel on an Eagle or Eagle HT fifth wheel. Labor for models other than Pinnacle is not to exceed 36 hours in that procedure. The 2020 Eagle complaints say a repair was scheduled, or that the owner was told to pay. They do not describe a finished repair. North Point owners in the related threads describe wall repairs, repeat cracks, and a stress-relief cut. Those coaches are North Points, not Eagles.
- DIY difficulty
- Not a DIY job in these sources. The procedure says to contact Jayco customer service with questions, and it includes welding and fiberglass work.
- Parts needed
- Procedure 22-043 names aluminum gussets 0501848, steel gusset 0326331, a fiberglass or Filon panel, and 4-inch screws 0403478. It says the tube and C-channel are not added on Eagle fifth wheels.
- Warranty notes
- The procedure says a warranty repair is Jayco's decision and that the field remedy does not extend the warranty. Complaint ODI 11603054 says the owner was told to pay, and the complainant writes that a repair starts at $10,000. That figure is the complainant's statement. Complaint ODI 11388403 says a repair was scheduled and does not say who paid. North Point threads describe Jayco paying for some repairs. Those outcomes are not an Eagle warranty decision.
