Eagle fifth-wheel slide floors rot or pull away from the room
Owner reportSlides
- Symptoms
- On the Jayco Owners Forum, in a thread about slide-floor water damage, an owner wrote that a 2021 Jayco Eagle back slide had no flange on either end. The owner wrote that Jayco said flanges are not put on the back slides, that rain ran down the outside of the slide and soaked the OSB floor, and that the slide no longer works properly. The owner wrote that Jayco refused the repair. The post does not say fifth wheel or travel trailer. This site's 2021 Eagle is the fifth wheel. The travel-trailer Eagle years here are 2018, 2023, and 2024. NHTSA complaint ODI 11767490, on a 2024 Jayco fifth-wheel Eagle, says the slide floor separated from the interior slide, the pantry, and the refrigerator wall. The slide ram bars sloped down when the room was fully out, and the owner wrote that the floor and the pantry wall were badly damaged. The coach was taken to a Camping World for repairs. The complaint does not name the floorplan.
- Likely causes
- The 2021 post says rain reached the OSB because the back slide had no flange, and that the metal strips that were there did not keep the water off the wood. The 2024 complaint says the floor pulled away from the pantry and refrigerator assembly and the ram bars sloped down. Those are two different accounts. They do not show one missing flange, or one separated floor, on every Eagle.
- Common fixes
- Look at the outside end of each slide floor, and at the corners where water runs off the slide. Soft wood, or a floor that has pulled away from the room, is what these reports describe. A room whose ram bars slope down when it is out is what the 2024 complaint describes. If the wood is soft or the floor has separated, the repairs in these reports were shop work. The 2021 owner wrote that Jayco refused the repair. The 2024 owner took the coach to Camping World and did not describe a finished repair. Ask the dealer to look at the wood and the room, and ask whether they will authorize the shop, before the coach is hauled. Jayco procedure 22-043, which covers a bedroom-slide corner crack on Eagle fifth wheels built before model year 2021, does not describe this floor damage.
- DIY difficulty
- Looking at the slide corners is something the forum describes. Replacing a slide floor, or repairing a room that has pulled apart, was not a driveway job in these reports.
- Parts needed
- No Jayco part number is named. The 2021 post describes the OSB at the outer end of the slide and a flange the owner says was missing. The 2024 complaint describes the slide floor, the pantry wall, and the ram bars.
- Warranty notes
- This is not a recall. The 2021 owner wrote that Jayco refused the soaked floor. The 2024 complaint says the coach went to Camping World and does not say who paid. A post is not a coverage decision for another Eagle. The years on this page are 2021 and 2024, which are the years these reports name. The bedroom-slide corner crack on earlier Eagle fifth wheels is a different report.
