Reflection and Solitude backup camera and upper marker lights lose power
Owner reportElectrical
- Symptoms
- On some Grand Design fifth wheels, owners say the factory backup-camera wire shares the upper running-light circuit. A 2019 Reflection 303 owner found no power at the camera wiring and at five upper running lights. The other running lights still worked, and those upper lights were already out before any camera work. In that thread, a Solitude owner described the same dead upper lights and camera feed. The model year of that Solitude is not stated. Loose crimp connectors behind the curbside upper marker were the fix on that coach, and another owner wrote that the upper markers on a 303 are fed from the left taillight. A 2025 Reflection owner found reversed polarity on the factory camera lead. The clearance lights worked, and the camera worked after those two wires were swapped. A separate report on a 2020 Reflection 303RLS is a different failure: all running lights, brake lights, and turn signals went dead after side cameras were tied into the marker-light wiring. On an independent forum, a 2022 Momentum 23G owner measured no voltage at the Furrion camera plug while the marker lights worked. Replies there point to a loose or missing tie-in at the nearest marker light, and a 2024 Solitude owner said the black wire was positive and the red wire was negative. That Momentum owner later wrote that the wet-bay battery switch sent power to the camera without the truck connected. Earlier threads describe factory camera leads with no dedicated circuit, a connection that had come apart on a Solitude, and camera power taken from marker lights or from another nearby circuit.
- Likely causes
- Owners describe loose or poorly crimped connectors on the wire that feeds the upper markers and the camera, a camera lead that was never tied to the nearest marker light, and reversed polarity at the factory camera plug. The threads do not show one cause on every trailer. Some camera leads have power only when the tow-vehicle headlights are on. One Momentum owner found the feed on the wet-bay battery switch.
- Common fixes
- The Solitude owner in the Reflection 303 thread redid the crimps behind the curbside upper marker, with the tow-vehicle lights on, and the upper lights and camera feed worked. The 2025 Reflection owner drilled an access hole, cut the factory camera lead, spliced it with the polarity corrected, and sealed the hole. Replies on the total-light-loss thread say to disconnect the new cameras first and confirm the original lights work. These are owner accounts. They are not a wiring diagram.
- DIY difficulty
- Owners describe pulling a marker light or taillight and checking the connectors with the tow-vehicle lights on. The harness is packed tight. Correcting polarity means cutting factory wires. There is no published procedure in these threads.
- Parts needed
- No factory part number is named. Owners mention crimp connectors and, in the polarity case, a splice.
- Warranty notes
- These threads do not describe a warranty repair or a safety campaign. This is an owner wiring report.
