2024 Grand Design Imagine

Imagine hub covers pop off the wheels

Owner reportWheels
Symptoms
NHTSA complaint ODI 11650805, filed March 26, 2025, on a 2024 Grand Design Imagine XLS 17MKE bought new on February 8, 2025, says the dust caps on the axle hubs came loose after two short local trips. A repair shop found every hub empty of grease, the castle nuts loose, and the hubs heat-discolored, with bearing play. The complaint says the trailer will need new bearings and bearing races. On mygrandrv, in a thread opened April 14, 2025, an owner of a 2024 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH wrote that the wheel-bearing grease cover keeps popping off in less than 8 miles. The owner had just picked the trailer up from the dealer, heard a clanging noise while parking, and wrote that the outer hub cover was missing and the inner grease cap was trying to come out. The same thing happened on the trip home after a dealer visit, about 8 miles, and the dealer has the trailer. A reply on that thread says the new cast hub covers do that when they heat up, and tells the owner to ask the dealer for the old style. That reply is one person's advice. A later reply names a 2024 2500RL, which is not an Imagine.
Likely causes
The 17MKE complaint says the dust caps came loose and the hubs were empty of grease, with loose castle nuts and heat discoloration. The 2800BH post says the grease cover popped off and the inner cap was working out. The reply about cast covers heating up is that reply, not a shop measurement of the 2800BH. The 2800BH post does not say the hubs were empty of grease. The posts do not show one loose cover on every 2024 Imagine.
Common fixes
If a hub cover is missing, or you hear a cover clanging, stop and look at the hub before the next mile. A cover that has come off is what the 2800BH owner found after about 8 miles. Hubs with no grease, loose castle nuts, and heat discoloration are what the 17MKE shop found. That complaint says the trailer needs new bearings and races. That work, in the complaint, was a repair shop. The 2800BH owner left the trailer with the dealer. The reply that says to ask for the old-style cover is one person's advice, not a Grand Design procedure. Call the dealer with the floorplan and ask them to look at the hubs before the next trip.
DIY difficulty
Looking at the hub covers is something the 2800BH owner describes. Bearing and race replacement, in the 17MKE complaint, was a repair shop. There is no published procedure here.
Parts needed
No Grand Design part number is named. The 17MKE complaint describes dust caps, castle nuts, bearings, and races. The 2800BH post describes the outer hub cover and the inner grease cap. The reply mentions cast hub covers and an older style, and does not give a part number.
Warranty notes
This is not a recall. The 17MKE complaint does not say who paid for the shop visit. The 2800BH owner wrote that the dealer has the trailer and does not say who will pay. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another Imagine. The year on this page is 2024, which is the year both reports name. A 2025 Imagine is not on this page.
