2024 Silverado 2500 transmission valve body faults, including while towing
Owner reportTransmission
- Symptoms
- NHTSA complaints on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 describe a transmission valve-body failure. Complaint ODI 11673856 says that while towing a travel trailer at 55 mph the rear tires locked, the transmission left tow/haul on its own, the check-engine light came on, and the dash said reduced acceleration, drive with caution. It happened three times in about 20 miles. The complaint says a dealer found codes P0747 and P0700 and diagnosed the valve body. A new valve body arrived 14 days later, and the owner wrote that the symptom was gone after about 50 miles. Complaint ODI 11667335 says the truck went into reduced acceleration while pulling a camper, a dealer confirmed a bad valve body, and the owner was told there was no arrival time and that the dealer called it a widespread issue. That last sentence is the owner's account of what the dealer said. Complaint ODI 11666706 says the transmission downshifted hard into limp mode on Interstate 10, and a dealer diagnosed a valve-body failure. Complaint ODI 11663772 says a dealer diagnosed valve body part 24065357 and that GM could not give an arrival time. On a Duramax forum list of 10L1000 failures, a 2024 2500HD Duramax owner describes a surge into 7th and 8th that ends in a downshift to 5th and limp mode. The same list includes a 2024 3500 Duramax that banged while towing a 24,000-pound RV, a valve body replaced twice, and part 24065357 on the second unit. It also includes a 2024 Silverado 3500 that went into limp mode and waited on a valve body. Those 3500 reports are the same thread, not this model.
- Likely causes
- The complaints say dealers diagnosed the valve body. Two of them name codes P0747 and P0700 on the towing complaint, and part 24065357 on a separate complaint. They do not include a tear-down measurement. The forum list is owners reporting valve-body replacements on the 10L1000. One reply guesses heat and heavy trailering. Another reply says the posts in view were not all heavy towing. Those are opinions in the thread.
- Common fixes
- The complaints describe dealers replacing the valve body. One owner wrote that the symptom was gone after the new part and about 50 miles. Another wrote that the part had no arrival time. The forum list says one 2024 3500 had a defective replacement valve body and a second part 24065357 that was working when the owner posted, and a 2023 Sierra 2500HD was repaired after the valve body arrived. These are owner accounts of dealer repairs.
- DIY difficulty
- Not a DIY job in these sources. The complaints and the forum posts describe dealer diagnosis and a valve-body replacement.
- Parts needed
- Complaint ODI 11663772 and a 2024 3500 post in the forum list both name valve body part 24065357. The other complaints say a valve body and do not give a number.
- Warranty notes
- The complaints describe dealer visits and part delays. They do not say the repair was a recall, and they do not all say who paid. One forum post asks about help after the warranty and does not record an answer on the 2500. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another Silverado. The 2023 and 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 reports are on that model's page.
