2021 Jay Flight axles fail and wear the inside of the tires

Owner reportWheels
Symptoms
NHTSA complaint ODI 11472819, filed July 7, 2022, on a 2021 Jayco Jay Flight, says that with 1,400 miles both rear tires had worn down to the belts on the inside. The owner wrote that the axles have been replaced, so they are likely no longer available for inspection, and that the owner has pictures. The owner wrote that if the suspension parts had failed completely the axles could have come off. A service technician at a Jayco dealer confirmed the problem. Complaint ODI 11456061, filed March 10, 2022, also on a 2021 Jay Flight, says the trailer had an axle failure and had never been over GVW. The owner wrote that after a month Lippert and Jayco were unwilling to correct it. The owner wrote that the Lippert axle sticker lists a static load radius of 11.9 inches and says not to exceed that rating by more than 10 percent, that the Baja Edition as built by Jayco has 16-inch wheels and off-road Goodyear tires, and that the owner's measurement of the static load radius was 14.6 inches. The owner believes that measurement contributed to the axle failure. This complaint is filed on Jay Flight. It is not the Jay Flight SLX bent-axle report.
Likely causes
The tire-wear complaint says the inside of both rear tires wore to the belts and that the axles were replaced. The Baja Edition complaint says the axle failed and compares the owner's 14.6-inch measurement with an 11.9-inch sticker. That comparison, and the conclusion that it caused the failure, are the owner's. Neither complaint includes a Lippert measurement of that axle. The posts do not show one failed axle on every 2021 Jay Flight.
Common fixes
Look at the inside edges of the tires before a trip. Tires worn to the belts on the inside are what the July 2022 complaint describes. The owner of that complaint wrote that the axles were already replaced. The Baja Edition owner was still in a discussion with Lippert and Jayco and did not describe a finished repair. Replacing an axle, in the tire-wear complaint, had already been done. If a tire is down to the belts, do not keep towing. Call the dealer with photos and ask whether the visit is warranty before the next trip. The leaf-spring report on 2024 and 2026 Jay Flights is a different page.
DIY difficulty
Looking at the tire tread is something these owners describe. Axle replacement, in the tire-wear complaint, was not a driveway job. There is no published procedure here.
Parts needed
No Jayco part number is named. The tire-wear complaint describes the rear tires and the axles. The Baja Edition complaint names a Lippert axle sticker, 16-inch wheels, and off-road Goodyear tires.
Warranty notes
This is not a recall. The tire-wear complaint says a Jayco dealer confirmed the problem and does not say who paid for the axle replacement. The Baja Edition owner wrote that Lippert and Jayco were unwilling to correct the issue. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another Jay Flight. The year on this page is 2021, which is the year both complaints name. The Jay Flight SLX bent-axle report and the Jay Flight leaf-spring report are different pages.
