2024 North Point wheels crack and axles fail
Owner reportWheels
- Symptoms
- NHTSA complaint ODI 11738979, on a 2024 Jayco North Point 390 CKS bought in January 2024, says five wheels cracked, six tires were replaced, and two axles were replaced within the first 6 months. The owner wrote that one tire blew out at about 60 mph, and that both wheels came off the axles on another trip. The owner wrote that axle shops said the axles were not the right ones, and that Jayco did not answer. Complaint ODI 11711270, also on a 2024 North Point, says the GCWR sticker reads 19,140 pounds, each axle is rated 7,000 pounds, and two axles add up to 14,000 pounds. The owner wrote that the tires were wearing abnormally and that Jayco had not answered an email. On the Jayco Owners Forum, an owner of a 2024 North Point 390 wrote that Dexter axles with Tow Assist started acting up at about 4,500 miles, that the coach went to the dealer four times, and that the dealer then installed a new wheel assembly on the driver's front axle. That post is a reply on a thread about a side marker light. It does not say a wheel cracked.
- Likely causes
- The 390 CKS complaint says wheels cracked and axles were replaced, and the owner concludes the axles were the wrong ones. That conclusion is the owner's. The other 2024 complaint compares a 19,140-pound GCWR with two 7,000-pound axles and does not say a wheel cracked. The forum reply says a Dexter wheel assembly was replaced and does not give a shop's measurement. The posts do not show one cracked wheel on every 2024 North Point.
- Common fixes
- Look at the wheels and the tire tread before a trip. A crack in a wheel, or tires wearing unevenly, is what these 2024 owners describe. If a wheel has cracked, or a tire has already blown, do not keep towing the coach. The 390 CKS owner replaced wheels, tires, and axles and wrote that Jayco did not respond. The forum owner wrote that a dealer installed a new wheel assembly after four visits. Replacing an axle or a wheel assembly, in these reports, was shop or dealer work. Call Jayco or the dealer with photos of the wheel and the tread, and ask whether the visit is warranty, before the next trip. The bedroom-slide corner crack on earlier North Points is a different report.
- DIY difficulty
- Looking at the wheels and the tread is something the owners describe doing. Replacing an axle or a wheel assembly, in these reports, was a dealer or a shop. There is no published procedure here.
- Parts needed
- No Jayco part number is named. The 390 CKS complaint describes replacement wheels, tires, and axles. The forum reply names a Dexter axle with Tow Assist and a new wheel assembly on the driver's front axle. The other complaint names a 7,000-pound axle rating.
- Warranty notes
- This is not a recall. The 390 CKS owner wrote that Jayco did not respond and that the owner paid. The axle-rating complaint says an email went unanswered. The forum reply says a dealer did the wheel-assembly work and does not say who paid. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another North Point. The year on this page is 2024, which is the year these reports name.
