Eagle HT fifth-wheel frame rails crack near the axles
Owner reportFrame
- Symptoms
- NHTSA complaint ODI 11518397, filed April 22, 2023, on a 2021 Jayco Eagle HT, says the frame cracked at the axle connections and points to a Jayco Owners Forum thread about a broken Eagle HT frame. That thread opens on July 25, 2022, with a 2018 Eagle HT 27.5RLTS. The owner wrote that the frame was broken in at least six places, the main rails were severely bent, the cabin sat tilted, the slides were out of alignment, and the side walls were separating from the floor. The owner wrote that this followed normal use and was not an accident. This site's Eagle HT years are 2019, 2020, and 2021, so 2018 is not a page here. A reply on the thread says there are many reports on Eagle HT fifth wheels from 2017 through 2019. That sentence is the reply. It does not name a floorplan or a repair.
- Likely causes
- The 2021 complaint says the cracks are at the axle connections. The 2018 post describes bent main rails and a cabin that sat tilted with the slides out of line. Neither source includes a measurement of why the rail cracked. The posts do not show one cracked rail on every Eagle HT.
- Common fixes
- Look at the frame rails around the spring hangers. A crack in the rail, or a rail that has bent, is what these reports describe. If the body sits tilted or a slide no longer lines up, have the trailer inspected before the next trip instead of towing it. The 2018 owner wrote that Lippert offered to repair the frame and that the cabin damage was still being discussed. The 2021 complaint does not describe a finished repair. Welding the rail is shop work. Ask the dealer and Lippert to look at the rails and to say what they will repair before the coach is hauled.
- DIY difficulty
- Looking at the rails is something an owner can do. Repairing a broken frame, in the 2018 post, was a Lippert repair, not a driveway weld.
- Parts needed
- No Jayco or Lippert part number is named. The posts describe the frame rails, the area near the king pin, and the cabin that moved with the frame.
- Warranty notes
- This is not a recall. The 2018 owner wrote that insurance denied the claim as mechanical failure and deterioration, and that Jayco had not answered when the post was written. Lippert had offered to repair the frame. That is one owner's account of a 2018 coach, and 2018 is not an Eagle HT year on this site. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another Eagle HT. The year on this page is 2021, which is the year the complaint names. Jayco procedure 22-043, which covers a bedroom-slide corner crack on some Eagle fifth wheels, does not name this axle-area frame crack.
