Cyclone spring hangers break off the frame
Owner reportFrame
- Symptoms
- NHTSA complaint ODI 11627661, filed November 27, 2024, on a 2018 Heartland Cyclone, says the trailer was not pulling straight, spring hangers had broken, others were bent, and the frame was bent. The owner wrote that the coach has a Lippert Correct Track system, that a welder would not install the new hangers because the bent frame would not line up, and that Lippert had sent hangers and gussets. On the Heartland Owners Forum, an owner wrote on July 23, 2020, that the rear spring hanger broke on a 2018 Cyclone 4250. A reply on that thread says the right-rear hanger broke on the way into a repair shop in Goshen. A separate thread, from September 21, 2019, is a 2018 Cyclone 4005 whose broken hanger was repaired by a Lippert factory technician who reinforced all six spring hangers.
- Likely causes
- The complaint and the forum posts describe hangers that broke or bent, and a frame that bent with them on the complaint. They do not include a lab report. The complaint says the owner was told the Correct Track system was discontinued after failures. That sentence is the owner's account. The posts do not show one broken hanger on every Cyclone.
- Common fixes
- Look at the spring hangers before a trip, including the rear hangers on a triple-axle coach. A hanger that is cracked, bent, or pulling off the rail is what these owners found. If a hanger has already broken, or the trailer is not tracking straight, do not keep towing it. The 4250 owner was asking about adding supports. The 4005 owner wrote that a Lippert technician came to the coach and reinforced all six hangers. The complaint says a welder would not bolt new hangers onto a bent frame. Straightening that frame is shop work. Ask Heartland or Lippert to look at the hangers and the rail, and ask whether they will send hangers or a technician, before the next trip.
- DIY difficulty
- Looking under the trailer at the hangers is something the owners describe doing. Welding or reinforcing a hanger, in these reports, was a welder or a Lippert technician. There is no measured procedure here.
- Parts needed
- No Heartland part number is named. The complaint says Lippert sent new hangers and gussets. The 4005 post says all six hangers were reinforced and does not name a part.
- Warranty notes
- This is not a recall. The 4005 owner wrote that Lippert did the repair under warranty. The complaint does not say the bent frame was paid for. The 4250 post does not record who paid. A post is not a coverage decision for another Cyclone. The year on this page is 2018, which is the year these reports name. This site's other Cyclone years are not in these reports.
