Paradigm aluminum wheel spokes crack
Owner reportWheels
- Symptoms
- NHTSA complaint ODI 11595079, filed June 18, 2024, on a 2021 Alliance Paradigm, says a close look at the aluminum wheels found spoke cracks on 2 of 4 wheels, one of them almost across a spoke, and that the owner considered the coach unsafe to tow. Complaint ODI 11587454, on a 2021 Alliance Paradigm, says a wheel broke while leaving an RV park, the tire and the outer wheel were on the ground about half a mile from Interstate 40, and 2 of the other 3 wheels had cracks. The owner bought replacement wheels to get home to Texas. On the Alliance RV Owners Forum, in a thread about which wheel a Paradigm uses, an owner of a 390MP asks if anyone else has cracked spokes on Lionshead aluminum rims and says both front rims have cracks on 2 spokes, still on the factory tires. A reply says a 2021 390MP has the same cracks, one wheel leaks down to about 70 psi while it sits, and one rim has already been replaced. The first 390MP post does not state a model year.
- Likely causes
- The complaints and the forum posts describe cracked spokes. They do not include a lab report or a measurement of why the spokes cracked. The forum posts name Lionshead aluminum rims on Paradigm 390MP floorplans. The NHTSA complaints say aluminum wheels and do not name the wheel brand or the floorplan.
- Common fixes
- Complaint ODI 11587454 says the owner made an emergency purchase of wheels. The 2021 390MP owner in the forum thread says one rim was replaced. Neither report is a shop procedure. Owners in that thread are talking about looking at the spokes. A cracked wheel is a reason to stop towing until the wheel is replaced. These reports do not say how often it happens.
- DIY difficulty
- Looking at the spokes is something the owners describe doing themselves. Replacing the wheel, in these reports, was a tire shop or a replacement the owner arranged. There is no published procedure here.
- Parts needed
- No Alliance part number is named. The forum posts are about Lionshead aluminum rims on a Paradigm 390MP. The NHTSA complaints do not name a part.
- Warranty notes
- The 2021 390MP owner wrote that one rim had already been replaced. The complaints do not say whether Alliance or the wheel maker paid. A complaint is not a warranty decision for another Paradigm.
