# Allegro Open Road hydraulic slides creep out

Owner reports are not official NHTSA recalls. Each report cites a public complaint, bulletin, forum thread, or manufacturer page. It is not a failure rate, a diagnosis, or a repair procedure.

**Owner report** · Slides · 2022 Tiffin Allegro Open Road

## Symptoms

Tiffin's May 31, 2022 dealer notice for NHTSA campaign 22V-273, Tiffin number TIF-122, says a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on 2021 Allegro Open Road floorplans 34PA and 36UA only, and on all 2022 Allegro Open Road floorplans. The notice says the hydraulic cylinder that moves certain slide rooms may have a defective inner seal, and that a room can extend 6 to 8 inches on its own while parked or while in transit. It says a relaxation of 1/2 to 1 inch is the ordinary allowance, and that the campaign is for movement beyond that. On iRV2, in a thread opened March 19, 2022, an owner of a 2022 32SA wrote that a hydraulic slide crept out about 4 or 5 inches while the coach was parked, and that a right-front leveler dropped about 5 inches. A 2022 36LA owner on that thread wrote that a slide crept 5 to 9 inches in storage, and sometimes within 30 minutes of being brought in. NHTSA complaint ODI 11566777, on a 2021 Allegro Open Road, says the driver-side slide crept again in July 2023 after the 22V-273 repair of July 1 to July 6, 2022. Complaints on 2022 coaches say the same creep came back after that campaign. ODI 11557155 says new cylinders held for about 10 months and the slide then moved out again while driving. ODI 11569487 says the campaign work was done in the summer of 2023 and the creep returned. ODI 11568076 says the coach was in 22V-273 and the slide crept while driving after a repair.

## Likely causes

Tiffin's defect report for 22V-273 says the inner seal of the 1 1/4-inch hydraulic slide cylinder cannot hold pressure, so the room extends until the pressure equalizes. The May 31, 2022 notice says the same thing and limits the 2021 coaches to the 34PA and 36UA. The March 2022 forum posts describe creep before that notice. Some replies on the thread guess at a solenoid or a valve. Those guesses are the replies. The complaints that say the creep returned are the owners' accounts after a cylinder replacement. The posts do not show one leaking seal on every Allegro Open Road.

## Common fixes

The May 31, 2022 notice tells dealers that owners are instructed to take the motorhome to a service center or a dealer and to have the cylinders replaced with cylinders that have an updated inner seal. It says there is no cost to the owner for that campaign repair, that inspection is not required before the parts are ordered, and that Tiffin allows 1 hour for the 32SA, 32FA, 36LA, and 36UA and up to 3 hours for the 34PA. On March 30, 2022, before that notice, the 32SA owner wrote that Tiffin service had no remedy and recorded the VIN. The later complaints say a cylinder replacement did not keep the room in. If a slide moves out on its own, bring it back in if it will come in, and do not treat a room that is already out as safe to drive past. Call Tiffin or a dealer with the VIN and ask whether 22V-273 applies, and tell them if the room moved again after that work. This page is an owner report. It is not the campaign notice.

## DIY difficulty

Not a DIY job in Tiffin's notice. The notice sends the coach to a service center or a dealer for the cylinder replacement. The forum posts describe dealer and Red Bay visits, not a driveway seal replacement.

## Parts needed

The notice says the cylinders are replaced with cylinders that have an updated inner seal, and that the shop orders the repair kit for that floorplan. The defect report names component part number 5122146, a 1 1/4-inch hydraulic slide cylinder.

## Warranty notes

This is not a recall page. Campaign 22V-273 is Tiffin's safety recall for the slide cylinders on the 2021 34PA and 36UA and on every 2022 Allegro Open Road floorplan. The notice says the campaign repair has no cost to the owner. Complaints say the room crept again after that repair. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another coach, and it does not say the campaign is closed. Confirm the VIN at NHTSA. The years on this page are 2021 and 2022, which are the years the notice and these reports name. A 2022 Phaeton in the same forum thread is a different model.
