# Jay Flight SLX axles bend, including Baja Edition coaches

Owner reports are not official NHTSA recalls. Each report cites a public complaint, bulletin, forum thread, or manufacturer page. It is not a failure rate, a diagnosis, or a repair procedure.

**Owner report** · Wheels · 2021 Jayco travel trailers Jay Flight SLX

## Symptoms

NHTSA complaint ODI 11673653, filed July 15, 2025, on a 2021 Jayco Jay Flight SLX, says the axle sticker listed a D35 capacity of 3,500 pounds, the trailer sticker listed a GVWR of 4,200 pounds, and the factory-completed weight with full propane cylinders was 1,624 kg (3,582 pounds). The owner wrote that the wheels showed a slight extra camber and that the axle was bent, and concluded that the axle was undersized for the trailer. On iRV2, an owner of a Jay Flight SLX8 Baja Edition wrote on February 25, 2022, about being stranded in Baja Mexico for two weeks with a bent Lippert axle. The post says the trailer was not overloaded and had not hit a pothole hard. It does not state a model year.

## Likely causes

The 2021 complaint compares the 3,500-pound axle rating with a 4,200-pound GVWR and a 3,582-pound factory weight, and the owner concludes the axle was undersized. The iRV2 owner concludes that the Baja Edition's 16-inch off-road tires sit on an axle meant for a 14-inch, 5-lug wheel, and that Lippert makes that 6-lug 3,500-pound axle for Jayco. Those conclusions are the owners'. Neither post includes a Lippert measurement of that axle.

## Common fixes

The 2021 owner towed the trailer to a repair shop and had the bent axle and the springs replaced. The iRV2 owner was waiting on axles in Baja and had been talking with Jayco and Lippert. If a wheel shows extra camber, or a tire is wearing on one edge, stop and have the axle measured before the next trip. Replacing the axle, in the 2021 complaint, was shop work. This page does not pick a replacement axle.

## DIY difficulty

Not a DIY job in these sources. The 2021 repair was a trailer shop. The iRV2 owner was waiting on axles and did not describe a driveway replacement.

## Parts needed

No Jayco part number is named. The 2021 complaint names a D35 axle rated 3,500 pounds. The iRV2 post names a Lippert axle used with 16-inch Goodyear off-road tires and a 6-lug wheel.

## Warranty notes

This is not a recall. The 2021 complaint says the owner paid a shop to replace the axle and springs and does not say Jayco paid. The iRV2 owner was still talking with Jayco and Lippert when the post was written. A complaint is not a coverage decision for another Jay Flight SLX. The year on this page is 2021, which is the year the complaint names. The iRV2 post does not give a model year.
