# Slide-outs and slide floors to look at before storage

Recall answers explain official NHTSA recalls and a VIN check. A model-year campaign is not proof a VIN is included. Owner reports are not recalls.

These are owner reports, not recalls. Before the slides stay in for the winter, look at the seals, the floor at the outer corners, and any crack at a slide opening. Jayco and Grand Design both say to deal with ice and seals before you run a room. This page tells you what to look at and what to ask a dealer. It is not a repair procedure. This page is not legal advice. Read the recall letter for your VIN, and ask the manufacturer named in that letter if you are unsure.

## What the owner's manuals say about a stored slide

Jayco's 2026 family towable owner's manual says to check the rubber seals on the slideout so the corners are set to keep water out. It says that for long-term storage the slideout should be retracted. In the cold-weather section, the same manual says to inspect slide outs, doors, locks, windows, and vents for frozen moisture before you operate them. If a room will not move when you press the switch, or it moves crooked, the manual says to contact the dealer or customer service. The manual also has retract steps for specific slide systems. Those steps are for that system. This page does not repeat them. If the room will not come in, call the dealer.

The Grand Design Reflection fifth-wheel owner's manual says the RV is not designed for sub-freezing weather, and that you should check the outside for ice before you operate the slideouts, compartment doors, locks, windows, or vents. Jayco's winterizing article says to pay attention to seals before storage. Your coach may use a different manual. Read the one that came with it, or ask the dealer for that copy.

## Slide floors: what owners have reported

The Cedar Creek owner report says owners found water behind the outside trim and soft plywood in the slide floor. The page says to look at the sealant on the outside trim, including the top of the bottom trim, and to press the floor inside, especially at the outside corners. Soft or stained wood is what those owners found. Replacing the floor was shop work in those threads.

The Bighorn owner report and the Eagle fifth-wheel slide-floor report describe rot or a floor that pulled away from the room. The Eagle page says to look at the outside end of each slide floor and at the corners where water runs off. The Paradigm owner report describes ski plates that crack or shift so the slide floor sits lower than it should, and one coach with rotten floor under a ski. Looking at the skis is what those owners describe. A soft floor, on that page, was shop work. None of these pages is a recall, and none of them shows the same damage on every coach.

## Slide cracks, and a room that creeps out

Keystone service bulletin KSB-210122, cited on the Montana and Montana High Country owner reports, describes a crack at the bottom corner of a slideout. Jayco standard repair procedure 22-043 is cited on the North Point, Eagle, Pinnacle, and Seismic slide-crack reports for a crack at a bedroom slide on coaches those pages name. A service bulletin or a repair procedure is not a NHTSA safety recall. Those pages say to look for a crack at the slide corner and to ask the dealer which document, if any, applies to your VIN.

The Allegro Open Road owner report describes hydraulic slides that crept out. If a room is not where you left it, do not keep running it. Ask the dealer to look. The Reflection Schwintek owner report is a separate page about slide failures on Reflection floor plans. Check the VIN at NHTSA as well. A crack you can see, and a campaign on the VIN, can be two different things.

## Questions

### Should the slides be in for winter storage?

Jayco's 2026 family towable owner's manual says that for long-term storage the slideout should be retracted, and that you should check the rubber seals (https://www.jayco.com/uploads/rvs/manuals/645-Jayco-Family-Towable-Manual-Vs2---2026---WEB.pdf). Grand Design's Reflection fifth-wheel manual says to check for ice before you operate a slideout (https://www.granddesignrv.com/content/dam/grand-design-rv/en/master-files/customer-service/owner-support/resources/owners-manuals/reflection/current/ReflectionFW_OM_Rev09_2026.pdf.coredownload.inline.pdf). Read the manual for your coach.

### Are soft slide floors a recall?

Not on the Cedar Creek, Bighorn, Eagle, or Paradigm pages. Those are owner reports. They say to look at sealant, outer corners, and ski plates, and to ask the dealer if the wood is soft. Check the VIN at NHTSA for any separate campaign.

### Is a slide-corner crack the same as a recall?

No. The Montana and Jayco slide-crack pages cite service bulletins or a Jayco repair procedure. A bulletin is not a safety recall. Ask the dealer whether that document applies to your VIN, and confirm any open campaign at NHTSA.

### Is this legal advice?

No. This page points at owner manuals and owner reports. It is not legal advice, and it is not a repair procedure.
