# How to check an RV or tow-vehicle VIN for recalls

Recall answers explain official NHTSA recalls and a VIN check. A model-year campaign is not proof a VIN is included. Owner reports are not recalls.

Enter the VIN at NHTSA to see whether a recall includes your RV or tow vehicle. Then open the make, model, and year on RigFix to read the campaigns NHTSA has on file.

## Use the NHTSA VIN tool

Enter the VIN on the Check your rig by VIN page. We ask NHTSA for the make, model, and year, then show the official recalls this site has on file for that model year. NHTSA is the source that says whether a campaign includes that VIN. The VIN is on the unit and on the registration.

## See what RigFix shows

Open the brand list and choose the make, model, and year. The year page lists the official recalls NHTSA has on file for that model year. Grand Design, Ram, Keystone Montana and Montana High Country, Alliance Paradigm, Jayco Eagle, North Point, Pinnacle, Seismic, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, and White Hawk, Brinkley Model Z and Model G, Forest River Cedar Creek, and some Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC heavy-duty pages also include owner reports that cite a public source. Other pages list official recalls. A campaign on the year page is not proof your VIN is included.

## Call the dealer to confirm the repair

If NHTSA shows a recall for your VIN, call a dealer for that brand. Ask them to confirm the campaign and the repair. Call the dealer too if you are not sure the repair was finished. The dealer confirms the work. A model-year page cannot.

## Questions

### How do I check RV recalls by VIN?

Enter the VIN at the NHTSA recalls lookup, https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls. NHTSA says whether a campaign includes that RV or tow vehicle. Then open the matching make, model, and year on RigFix to read the campaigns NHTSA has on file for that model year.

### What does RigFix show?

Each model-year page lists the official recalls NHTSA has on file for that make, model, and year. Grand Design, Ram, Keystone Montana and Montana High Country, Alliance Paradigm, Jayco Eagle, North Point, Pinnacle, Seismic, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, and White Hawk, Brinkley Model Z and Model G, Forest River Cedar Creek, and some Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC heavy-duty pages also include owner reports. A model-year campaign is not a VIN match.

### When should I call the dealer?

Call a dealer for that brand when NHTSA shows a recall for your VIN, or when you are not sure the repair was done. Ask the dealer to confirm the campaign and schedule the repair.

### Does this cover tow vehicles and RVs?

Yes. RigFix lists official NHTSA recalls for RVs and for the vehicles that tow them. Use the same VIN check for a trailer and for the truck.
